Friends of the late Steve Kleiber to hold benefit concert at Turner Hall to endow memorial scholarship fund at Wisconsin Conservatory of Music

MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music announces friends and former band mates of the late Steve Kleiber will hold a benefit concert on May 3, 2015 at 7 p.m. with proceeds to go towards endowment of a memorial scholarship fund in his name. The concert will be held at the historic Turner Hall located at 1038 N. 4th Street. Tickets are $20 plus applicable fees and are available by calling the Pabst Theater Box Office at 414-‐286-‐ 3205 or 24-‐hour Ticket Line at 414-‐286-‐3663.
The Steve Kleiber Memorial Scholarship Fund Concert will feature Greg Koch, Sam Llanas and Willy Porter. Special guest performers include Dave Adler, Ethan Bender, John Calarco, Michael Henszey, Carmen Nickerson, and many other local musicians. Also performing is the Wisconsin Conservatory Batterman Jazz Ensemble.
Kleiber, a bass player who studied jazz at the Conservatory in 1984, died in a tragic house fire at his Glendale home on February 8, 2014. He performed and toured with Willy Porter for 18 years, and in addition, played with a wide range of musicians including former BoDeans member Sam Llanas, the band Oceans, and Arista Records artist Keedy.
“Turning this tragedy into something positive by helping a promising music student is a great tribute to Steve,” said Michael Henszey, one of the event organizers. “We are happy to collaborate with the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music as a sponsor given Steve’s history with them.”
Once fully endowed, proceeds from the Steve Kleiber Memorial Scholarship Fund will go to benefit promising college-‐bound music students in Southeastern Wisconsin desiring to study music at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music.
