“The risks, erasures, revisions, and resolutions that go into the work are layered in its strata.  The end result is the sum of this history.  I want my paintings to speak to this process.”                                                                                    ~Mark Mulhern

The Main Gallery will feature an expansive group of New Work by Mark Mulhern which reflects his ongoing interest in the figure and its place in the world.  Introspective but unselfconscious, the work is filled with subtle gestures and freely painted locations that invite contemplation on the part of the viewer.  Inspired by the Brocante (vintage markets) of France and garden parties, Mulhern’s large scale paintings capture fleeting moments but are the result of making marks, revising, amending, and finally, accepting the end result.  Tory Folliard Gallery has proudly represented the work of Mark Mulhern since 1990.  New Work is Mulhern’s eighth solo show with the gallery.

Cathy MartinThis & That

Cathy Martin’s new acrylic paintings will be shown in The East Gallery.  Previously a farmer, this self-taught painter lives in western Wisconsin. The high plateaus, deep valleys, and scenic byways near her home provide abundant material for her rich compositions.  Her highly detailed oils are filled with miniscule brushstrokes that make up charged elements in alluring landscapes.  This & That is Martin’s fourth solo show with the gallery.
