Local Fashions and Collaborations to Benefit The Women’s Center

WAUKESHA, WI – The Women’s Center Fashion Show and Dinner, “A Fashionable Dream”, will be held on Friday, Nov. 21^st at the Country Springs Hotel (2810 Golf Road, Pewaukee). The event is presented by Galleria West and will feature collections from A.J. Ugent Furs, Faye’s, Mainstream Boutique, M.E. Lou, Picardy Shoe Parlour, and Squire Fine Men’s Apparel, with hair and makeup styled by Studio 890.

Local author and former client of The Women’s Center Vivian (formerly Ruth) Probst will speak at the event. As she worked to leave an abusive marriage, Vivian received counseling at The Women’s Center and was one of the first clients to participate in the Transitional Living program. For the past 25 years, Ruth has enjoyed a successful career in affordable housing and a national consulting business (The TheoPRO Group). She recently won a national book award for her novel, Death by Roses, being published In February 2015 by New York City publisher, SelectBooks. A portion of the net proceeds from her novel are donated to The Women’s Center.  Her message to the audience at the Fashion Show will be, “What a Difference YOU Make!”

Also to be showcased will be winning jewelry from an online design contest sponsored by Bead&Button magazine, produced by Kalmbach Publishing Co., and the Senhoa Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports vulnerable people and survivors of human trafficking through prevention, rehabilitation and advocacy programs. The winning designs will be incorporated into Senhoa’s line of handcrafted jewelry, which supports Senhoa’s programming.

The fashion show event runs from 6:00 – 10:00 pm; tickets are $75 and can be purchased at www.twcwaukesha.org or by phone at 262-522-3805. Event proceeds benefit The Women’s Center’s free programs and services that help women and children heal and break the cycle of violence. Senhoa jewelry will also be available for purchase, with proceeds going to Senhoa.

Founded in 1977, The Women’s Center is a non-profit human service agency that provides a wide range of free and comprehensive services designed to address the issues of domestic violence, sexual assault and abuse.  These services include emergency shelter for abused women and their children, transitional living, 24-hour Hotline, group and individual counseling, onsite childcare, child abuse prevention programming, legal advocacy and employment counseling.  The Center also provides Hispanic outreach, community education and violence prevention programs, information and referral services.  In 2013, The Women’s Center served over 9,000 individuals.
