31st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration
Sunday, January 18th at 1:00 pm in Uihlein Hall
The only cities that have celebrated Dr. King’s Birthday annually since 1984 are Atlanta, Georgia and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This event focuses on keeping the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. alive. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration programming highlights the youth in our community who every year interpret Dr. King’s words through an art, speech and writing contest.
The theme for this year’s program is “We Have A Great Deal of Positive Work To Do” which was taken from, A testament of Hope, The Essential Writings and Speeches of Martin Luther King, Jr. Young people who are involved in the performing arts will also be highlighted as they salute Dr. King’s legacy through music, dance and song.
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration is free and open to the public. Parking will be free in the Marcus Center parking structure. The event concludes with the Paulette Y. Copeland Reception in Bradley Pavilion.
