Milwaukee is a diverse city with numerous events happening every weekend. The Third Coast Daily photo team visited a few of them last weekend and has a photo gallery including the debut of Denim Park Summer Music Series, Wisconsin State Fair, and African World Fest. Just a small sampling of what our fair city has to offer.

Wednesday | Denim Park Summer Music Series

Denim Park’s Summer Music Series kicked off its first concert on Wednesday, Aug. 1, with Milwaukee band The Fatty Acids. Cloudy skies and gloomy showers hovered close to performance time, but didn’t hold back The Fatty Acids from putting on an exciting, high-energy performance. Despite a smaller-scale turn out, the intimate stage and seating made for a cozy, down to earth atmosphere. The band members mingled with spectators in between sets and even made plently of crowd shout outs in between songs. Food trucks Simmer and JeppaJoes also added a nice touch to the evening.

Friday | Wisconsin State Fair

The Wisconsin State Fair opened Thursday, Aug. 1, and runs through Aug. 11 at State Fair Park in West Allis. Friday drew in large crowds as the Fair’s first weekend opener. Glorious fried food vendors, livestock barns, and expo center browsing were among the most popular attractions at the grounds. If you’ve yet to make a stop at the fair, keep your eye out for the various promotions and discounts on ticket sales, offered every day through the 11th.

Saturday | African World Festival

The African World Festival celebrated its 30th anniversary this past Saturday at Summerfest grounds. The festival’s mission is to promote and share the culture and heritage of all people of African descent with the global community. Saturday’s fest featured a variety of ethnic foods, live music and dancing, a marketplace, and a cultural village, great for a steady mix of both education and entertainment.
