MADISON, Wis. — Today, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Devin Remiker joined Congresswoman Gwen Moore and Wisconsinites hurt by MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany’s cost-raising policies to set the record straight about Congressman Tiffany’s bad-for-Wisconsin record that has raised the cost of living and made healthcare unaffordable.
Under the MAGA policies Congressman Tiffany has rubber-stamped like the Big Ugly Bill and the war-of-choice in Iran, diesel prices have hit record levels, inflation has skyrocketed and healthcare costs are out of control. Families, seniors and working people are struggling to keep up with everyday costs as Tiffany’s policies continue to cause chaos and raise prices.
Chair Devin Remiker: “Tom Tiffany has spent most of his career working for the wealthy and the most extreme. And make no mistake, Tiffany’s been rated as one of the most extreme members of Congress in modern history, voting with Trump 100% of the time. There is no question that Tom Tiffany is directly responsible for high gas prices, unaffordable healthcare, and the out-of-control cost-of-living that Wisconsinites are being stuck with right now […] Even a former state senator once said that Tom Tiffany’s actions are ‘about as low rent as I’ve ever seen from a legislator’ — that’s the Tom Tiffany who ruthlessly gutted healthcare to pay for tax breaks for billionaires and continues to support the war-of-choice in Iran that Trump started. That’s the Tom Tiffany who disregarded the will of voters in 2020 and tried to overturn the election to install Donald Trump.”
Congresswoman Gwen Moore: “Tom Tiffany right now is benefiting in this race not from his brilliance, not from his service to the public, he’s benefiting because the MAGA donors are dumping millions and millions and millions of dollars to try to stand this straw man up, to try to stand up this empty suit. But you know something […] Money can’t buy the truth, and money cannot provide healthcare for you, lower costs for housing, it cannot help our farmers. And tonight, tonight, tonight, in that debate, […] When the donors aren’t able to come into the room, you’re gonna see the real Tom Tiffany.”
Todd Aulgur: “I also want to talk about how after my battle with aplastic anemia, the rising cost of gas really had an impact on me and my family. For my family, gas wasn’t an optional weekend road trip. Gas was the literal price of keeping me alive. After I beat aplastic anemia, my battle wasn’t over. The medical victory gave way to a financial nightmare because of the post-recovery needs and my ongoing care. I had to drive to the Froedtert Hospital every single week. Every mile driven was a mile that I couldn’t afford, and the pump ruthlessly drained my pocketbook just so I could stay healthy and be there for my family. When gas prices skyrocketed, the burden doesn’t just fall on the person who is sick; it ripples through the entire household. For us, it meant stripping away the joy of childhood from my daughters. We had to cut back on swim lessons, music classes, simply because the fuel required to get to get them to their activities became too much. The financial strain reaches into every corner of our daily lives.”
Nancy Peske: “The Affordable Care Act came in the nick of time for my family and me because I was on the verge of not being able to have any health insurance whatsoever for my family. So here I am on the edge of getting Medicare, and last year my premiums tripled from $340 a month to $1164 a month with a $7,500 deductible. In all my years as freelancer, I’ve probably only used up my deductible three times, two years in a row for cancer treatment, and this year I have used my deductible, which means I’m going to spend about $23,000 on health care. I get Medicare in 13 months and 10 days, and I’m counting because the difference in how much money I have to give to my retirement fund, that’s completely stopped.”
