Unlikely Sweet and Savory Combo Coming to Bay View
3rd Street Market Hall favorite brings wings and loaded fries to doughnut bar this fall.
Are chicken wings and doughnuts what sweet and savory dreams are made of? Manny Ramirez certainly believes so.
In a new collaboration, Ramirez, the owner of 3rd Street Market Hall‘s Mr. Wings, is expanding to Bay View this fall, serving his wings and funky fry recipes at Happy Dough Lucky, 2691 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., a colorful, vintage-themed bar that specializes in unique miniature doughnut creations.
“We wanted to do something fun for the Bay View area,” Ramirez said. “We thought it would be a cool pop-up with the salty-sweet aspect of wings and doughnuts, and Happy Dough Lucky is a great space to enjoy that combo while watching some Packers football or the Brewers in the World Series.”
Thus, for some 20 hours each week in a doughnut shop where the walls appear to be built of Legos and mini Pac-Man machines sit near the ordering window, Mr. Wings will add to the atmosphere, offering five-piece and 10-piece bone-in, boneless and veggie wing options. As for sides, Ramirez will serve his fry creations, which include sauced, cheese, pickle and bacon-cheese options. Corn ribs and bacon mac and cheese are also on the menu.
These choices will accompany Happy Dough Lucky’s signature doughnut offerings, which include s’mores, Nutella banana, birthday cake, caramel apple crunch and puppy chow to name a few.
“If you have ever been to Happy Dough Lucky, you know how cool the environment is with all the cool art and graphics. It gives you that neat vibe of traveling back in time,” Ramirez said. “We want our customers to support Happy Dough Lucky and vice versa.”
The pop-up hours are Thursday and Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
“We extend to a late-night cook on Saturdays for Happy Dough Lucky’s DJ set,” Ramirez said. “It’s all about getting actively involved.”
Ramirez said they plan to run the pop-up through the fall season, which “is a great time to get things going because the Bucks kick off soon, summer is out of our way and people tend to head indoors around this time.”
Mr. Wings’ vendor spot at 3rd Street Market Hall will continue to operate as always, on Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Happy Dough Lucky is open Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday through Saturday 10 a.m. to midnight.
