MPD Officer Involved Shooting
MILWAUKEE – Today, at approximately 9:21 pm., Milwaukee Police Department officers responded to a call for shots fired on the 1500 block of West Greenfield Avenue. When they arrived, residents flagged the officers down and pointed to dirt bikes that were leaving the area. Officers followed the group on dirt bikes to the alley in the 700 block of West Scott Street. As they were investigating the origin of the shots, they observed a masked suspect with a rifle. That suspect began to flee on foot.
An officer attempted to stop the suspect with the rifle and made numerous commands for the suspect to drop his weapon. The suspect disregarded these commands, and the officer discharged his duty weapon, striking the suspect. A rifle was recovered next to the suspect.
The officer that discharged his duty weapon during this incident is a 26-year-old male with over 3 years of service. The officer will be placed on administrative duty as is routine in officer involved shooting investigations.
The suspect, a 17-year-old male, was taken to a local hospital for non-fatal injuries. The Milwaukee Police Department’s Homicide Division will be investigating this incident. Charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
Related video will be released related in accordance with Standard Operating Procedure 575. This is a fluid and ongoing investigation.
