Unique Fusion Spot Planned for North Teutonia Avenue
New restaurant proposed tacos, tequila and soul food.
In a commercial corridor on N. Teutonia Avenue, culinary traditions mix freely. Jamerican Jerk Center specializes in Caribbean-American fare, while Big Shark Fish and Chicken serves up platters from both land and sea. Now, in line with the area’s fusion focus, a new Mexican-soul food spot plans to join the mix.
A liquor license filed with the city shows Tipsy Taco plans to open at 6107 N. Teutonia Ave., steps away from the corridor’s other globally inspired offerings.
Though the application provides limited insight, a Facebook post announcing the restaurant shares the details.
According to the post, Tipsy Taco plans to offer premium tequila, handcrafted cocktails and tacos Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. On weekends, the restaurant will host “Soul Food Days,” featuring meals prepared by Gloria’s Kitchen.
Gloria’s specializes in smothered chicken, catfish fillets, ribs and fried pork chops, while offering soul food classics such as collard greens, cornbread and mac and cheese.
“Get ready for a one-of-a-kind dining experience,” reads the announcement, noting that Gloria’s will bring “homemade flavor, comfort and tradition to every bite” and the tacos will be “signature” and “flavorful.”
The restaurant’s application lists Sylvia Evans as the owner.
According to the application, delivery will be available and one amusement machine is planned for the space. The restaurant opted for a “service bar only” designation, meaning alcoholic drinks will be served directly to tables and customers cannot sit at a bar.
The application is pending before the Milwaukee Common Council.
