Milwaukee Recreation to Hold Grand Reopening Ceremony for Newly Renovated Metcalfe Playfield
Event is set for Thursday, October 1 at 5:30pm

Milwaukee Recreation will hold a grand reopening ceremony on Thursday, October 1 at 5:30pm to mark the completed renovations to Metcalfe Playfield (2350 N. 33rd St). The event is open to the public. Community leaders and Milwaukee Recreation staff will also be in attendance.
Completed in late summer 2026, the renovated playfield includes:
- Modern playground equipment, including a full basketball court, state-of-the-art splash pad, cooling plaza, lighted football field, and a multi-purpose flex lawn.
- Custom flower-inspired shade structures, seating areas, and a renovated fieldhouse with upgraded amenities and flex space.
- New asphalt paths, pedestrian lighting, benches, and tables.
- Green infrastructure for stormwater management, native flowers, and shade trees throughout.
- Granite pavers repurposed from historic city of Milwaukee streets and new entrance sign.
Major renovations began in 2025 and were guided by extensive community engagement sessions in the summer and fall of 2023. Community participation at these events was critical in determining programming and design priorities.
“We are thrilled to see the completion of Metcalfe Playfield,” said Annie Kubes – Senior Director, Milwaukee Recreation. “This renovation transforms the space into a true hub of activity and connection for the neighborhood. It is now a place for kids to play, families to gather, and neighbors to be active. We hope the public will join us to celebrate this newly repurposed space on October 1.”
