Well, it may be “named” Landmark Credit Union Live but I doubt many people will actually “call” it that.
First, it’s got seven syllables.
But WAIT! “American Family Field” has seven syllables!
Yes, it does. But, in addition to American Family Field being easier to say and partially alliterative (“Family Field”) the “what it actually is” part of Landmark Credit Union Live is in the wrong place. What I mean is, it’s plain clumsy to explicitly call out the naming sponsor as a “Credit Union” while also not identifying somewhere what the facility actually is. “Music Theater,” “Concert Hall,” etc. Fiserv is a Forum, Baird is a Center, UWM Panther is an Arena. “Landmark Credit Union Live” is a-LIVE!
Part of the problem with simply calling it “Landmark Live,” of course, is that “landmark” is such a common term that it would make the naming right worthless. Another part of the problem is that Live Nation apparently insists on calling it “Live,” as if it could not possibly manage to be satisfied with its brand in a tagline, e.g., “A Live Nation Venue.”
“Associated Bank Theater Center.” Whoa…a whopping 11 syllables, but it says exactly what it is, and “bank” works whereas “credit Union” does not.
So, in the end, all the corporate brand professionals got together and created what is probably the most ridiculous name for a concert venue ever. Milwaukee thanks you!
I call it the Am Fam Clam.
Live Nation is an illegal monopolist, and building a venue the city does not need is just another example of its monopolistic behavior. Nice work Landmark
@CadeLovesMKE…The Clam!
In Madison, these are Live Nation/FPC Live venues, as we know: The Orpheum Theater and The Sylvee, the latter of which I just learned was named in the legacy of Sylvia Frank—the wife of Frank Productions founder, Herb Frank—after her passing.
BTW, according to AI, b low is a sample list of other Live Nation-owned venues. Note “Credit Union 1 Ampitheatre and Irving Plaza Powered by Verizon 5G, both formats of which I feel would be preferable to what MKE’s will be. Down here in Chicago, no one actually says “Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom.” It’s simply “Aragon Ballroom” or “The Aragon.”
What are we supposed to easily refer to MKE’s venue as? “The Live?”
