Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes all the same
There’s a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
And the people in the houses
All went to the university
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same
And there’s doctors and lawyers
And business executives
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same
And the boys go into business
And marry and raise a family
In boxes made of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
There’s a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same

One less ugly surface parking lot on Van Buren.
I believe the original restaurant in the Buca space was “Peppercorns” or similar, followed by Armadillo Grill which had a successful run.
The health club began (I believe) as an independent business focused on racquetball. It then became part of the Bally empire, branded for a time as “Vic Tanny”. I joined when it was classified as an “executive club” with towel service and other amenities. One could occasionally see pro athletes as well as minor local celebrities. Over the years it became run down and dirty. When Bally spun off their health club division, it got worse. Eventually the company went bankrupt, and the space was operated as a “Blast Fitness” for awhile. Based on DNS requests for service at the time, it was even more rundown.

Yes, it’s great to see this surface parking lot going away. And I look forward to the new neighbors!
