Happy to hear of the approval by ZND!
Another modern looking sardine can gets built in downtown Milwaukee. That’s what these buildings look like to me. They are as attractive as parking structures. Little by little, they change the character, feel, and atmosphere of historic downtown Milwaukee in a negative way.
And I wonder where the downtown density tipping point will be? That would be the point where it’s very desirable to live downtown versus it’s too darn crowded to live there. We’ll find out soon enough because they’re trying to build these sardine cans at break-neck speed in order to beat the oncoming economic recession/depression.
Thank you for referencing some of my testimony at this hearing. I too live on the riverwalk and as mentioned–in affordable housing across from condos selling from $500,000 to $1 million. From what I can tell, no one even knows affordable housing is their neighbor. Our city would be a much better place if we did not live up to the stereotypes that surround those with low-incomes. I have a Masters degree, a long-standing work history and a record as a community activist that pays taxes like everyone else. Not everyone has an income or retirement funds that allow for all life has to offer–but we all deserve to live in affordable housing in safe neighborhoods. Thankfully the east side represents the diversity of our city in a very positive way. Thank you to the Common Council for approving this important and much needed development. Mayor Barrett–please expand affordable housing in our metro area!
