Similar to data released Friday by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, Saturday’s data release doesn’t include new record high totals in cases, hospitalizations and deaths. But it does include totals that even two weeks ago would have been record setting.

DHS reported 4,062 new cases Saturday, the fourth-highest one-day total on record. A record average of 4,051 cases per day have been reported over the past week.

Saturday’s results come from 17,620 processed tests.

According to DHS data, 199 people were newly hospitalized in the past 24 hours, the second-highest total on record. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported that 1,237 people were actively hospitalized, down six from yesterday’s record high. The total is up 154 in the past week.

The death toll from the virus continues to accelerate alongside cases and hospitalizations. DHS reported 25 deaths Saturday. The latest data release pushed the 30-day average to a record 16.83 deaths per day, up from 5.80 a month ago.

Milwaukee County has also gone from having the worst per-capita outbreak to the 14th worst over the past month, even as its case and hospitalization load has surged to record levels.

Menominee County has recorded 6,458.2 cases per 100,000 residents (up from 6,230). Brown County has recorded 5,544.1 cases per 100,000 residents (up from 5,480.5). Shawano, Oconto, Calumet, Kewaunee, Winnebago, Forest, Outagamie, Florence. Waupaca, Langlade and Dodge counties are the remaining counties leading Milwaukee.

According to DHS data, 4,034.8 out of every 100,000 Milwaukee County residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since the outbreak began (up from 4,011.4 ).

The statewide average of cases per 100,000 residents rose to 3,365.1 (up from 3,294.9). Wisconsin has recorded a per-capita rate of 760.9 cases per 100,000 residents in the past two weeks according to the DHS activity level report released Wednesday.
