Owners and employees of nine of the 15 companies picked by the state to rebuild a portion of Interstate 94 have contributed about $221,200 to Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s campaigns.

The subcontractors for the project were announced Tuesday by the state Department of Transportation after the general contractor, Michels Corp., was chosen in late May. The $169 million reconstruction of I-94’s northbound lanes will start Friday.

The companies and their employee contributions to the governor are:

Michels Corp., of Brownsville, $143,435

Payne & Dolan, of Waukesha, $28,550

Century Fence Co., of Pewaukee, $18,000

Lunda Construction, of Black River Falls, $14,050

Hoffman Construction, of Black River Falls, about $8,300

Arbor Green, of Portage, $6,500

Mega Rentals, of Madison, $1,000

Pavement Maintenance, of Menomonee Falls, $1,000

Arrow-Crete Construction, of Milwaukee, $400

Among these companies, the top individual contributors to Walker came from the family owners of Michels Corp., including:

Timothy Michels, vice president, and his wife, Barbara, of Hartland, $50,500

Kevin Michels, vice president, and his wife, Connie, of Brownsville, $35,000

Patrick Michels, president, of Brownsville, $30,000
