The holiday season is officially upon us.

Instead of scrambling through stores on black Friday, Milwaukee shoppers can find their favorite local fare at the Mitchell Park Horticultural Observatory on Sunday, November 29.

Local First Milwaukee, an area coalition focused on promoting local businesses, is holding their annual Buy Local Gift Fair at the Domes. More than 80 local vendors will be displaying their wares for interested shoppers. Many local favorites will be featured including Rishi Tea, Lakefront Brewery and Kasana Gourmet.

For returning fair goers, one can expect a larger exhibit space with the fair spilling into the new annex; sponsored by Stan’s Fit For Your Feet. The new annex is a 10,000-square-foot greenhouse next to the conservatory’s domes.

The fair is part of Local Milwaukee First’s greater advocacy goals aimed at shifting buyers away from national venues to local businesses. They have a pledge on their website asking consumers to do 10 percent more of their spending at local businesses — a move they say would net the local economy an extra $311 million annually.

The event, which runs from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m., offers free parking. However, there is a $7 admission (but it’s free for Friends of the Domes members). Food and beverages will be available, including coffee, beer and bloody marys.
