A Weinermobile visits Milwaukee. No baloney.
The Oscar Meyer vehicle, an updated version of the nostalgic 1936 model, will visit local Pick 'n Saves this weekend.
Only in America do people relish at the thought of getting up close and personal with a 27-foot tube meat shaped car on their way to buy groceries. It’s standard procedure to sing a song about wanting to be a hot dog in order to obtain a weenie whistle and get your picture taken in front of the giant frank.
Touring Hotdoggers Pepper Jackie Cheese and Sal-Emy, visiting Milwaukee Pick ‘n Saves will be waiting to answer any questions you may have about the history of the Wienermobile or Oscar Mayer’s mission. Attempting to out-pun them with hot dog talk would only result in failure, but you can try if you’re feeling saucy. They speak it fluently, and it’s remarkable.
The recent graduates trained for 2 weeks to tour the country for a year as Oscar Mayer spokespeople. This particular hot rod (license plate OUR DOG) is a little more advanced than the original 1936 model. It’s a pimped out 2012 six-seater version complete with a bun roof, solar panels, a projection sound system, and flat screen television.
Grinning onlookers Thursday were thrilled to run in to the Wienermobile. Adults told stories seeing the iconic vehicle back in the 1950s or still owning the whistles they were given as children. Wide-eyed kids were loaded up with their own 3-note whistles, keychains, stickers, and lyric sheets to the Oscar Mayer Wiener song. Pick ’n Save employees braved the cold to wait in line for freebies, because let’s face it, how often do you see a Wienermobile?
OUR DOG will be parked at the following Pick ’n Save locations this weekend:
Saturday 1/12 – 4279 S. 76th St. from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Sunday 1/13 – 7201 S. 76th St. from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
