Tripping Over The Clutters

By - May 15th, 2011 04:00 am

The Clutters are a quartet from Nashville who traffic in the type of swaggering rock and roll that starts the kind of parties the cops usually shut down around 2 a.m. Short on pretense and long on snot, noise, and attitude, The Clutters third elpee, Breaking Bones, is a cluster of handclaps, cowbells, loud and obviously tormented guitars, and endless Farfisa organ circus acts.

Presiding over this bash is guitarist and lead snarler Doug Lehmann, who does, in fact, sound like Edward G. Robinson as a rock star, no fooling. Breaking Bones makes you want to throw on a toga and throw beer cans around, but what you want to hear (right now!) is “I’m Bitter,” a track that feels like it’s pushing the speed limit. That Farfisa organ that Clutters keyboardist Andrew Higley shreds makes the party, and his fingers are as nimble and persistent as a precision mosquito drill team. It’s a track you’ll wish could last forever.
