The Racine Theatre Guild is looking for a variety of actors, particularly men, for its production of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure Treasure Island. Auditions are being held at 7 p.m. on January 3 and 4, 2011. Performances are scheduled from March 2-13, with two weekends for the general public and four weekdays for schools.

Treasure Island is set in the year 1775. Jim Hawkins, a boy of 14, and his widowed mother are running an inn when secretive pirate Billy Bones shows up, entrusting Jim with a mysterious map that will lead him on the high seas voyage of a lifetime. This new adaptation by Ken Ludwig has all the swashbuckling excitement of Stevenson’s masterful novel, including unforgettable characters like Long John Silver, Israel Hands, Blind Pew and Anne Bonney.

There are many roles for males and females of various ages — 13 and older. Every role is open. Auditions consist of cold readings from the script. Scripts are available in advance and may be checked out of the box office with payment of a refundable deposit.

Those interested in auditioning should report at 7 p.m. on either Monday, January 3, or Tuesday, January 4. Appointments are not being taken. The Racine Theatre Guild is a nonprofit community (amateur) theater located at 2519 Northwestern Avenue (Highway 38) in Racine.
