On not being a cover band of yourself

By - Apr 9th, 2010 04:00 am

Jason Wietlispach hasn’t been in a band for a long time, if a “band” is defined as “playing the same songs, with the same people, the same way, over and over again.” Since the mid-90s he has been an entirely improvisational artist. He’s also a DJ for WMSE, where he hosts the Sunday afternoon show Modern Chamber.

As part of our continuing series on music and musicians, Mark and Jason discuss what makes music what it is, why Coltrane might not be the best music to read by, tolerance for noise, classical music, the waste management industry and an infamous art school incident involving a cadaver.
