Poverty

Blog Action Day brings blogs from around the world to discuss an issue of global importance. Last year over 20,000 blogs participated by posting about the environment with the hope of sparking a larger discussion. This year Blog Action Day takes on the complex and troubling issue of poverty.

Year after year Milwaukee has one of the highest poverty rates in the nation with little signs of improvement. Historical issues such as white flight, freeway building, and the loss of industry helped to put the city on this road but on-going issues such as the lack of job creation, declining access to mass transit, and the lack of education each play a role in the continuation of poverty in Milwaukee. This year UrbanMilwaukee.com will join the discussion, on October 15th, with the hope it could lead to new ideas and solutions that could be implemented here in Milwaukee.
