The old Pieces of Eight restaurant site will not be the new home of UWM’s new Freshwater Sciences Institute. The university encountered opposition to the lakefront site, between Discovery World and the Milwaukee Art Museum. Friday afternoon, the UWM Foundation distributed a statement, endorsed by Chancellor Carlos Santiago, saying that it would seek a new location for the institute, which is a key element in the university’s plans and in a larger effort to make Milwaukee a hub for water research.

The real estate foundation’s full statement was published here.

Thanks for posting Tom, I wasn’t around a computer this morning to post, but looking to get the news out there. It’s a shock for the Milwaukee 7, but the efforts must march on.
