Afternoon Tea on the Terrace

Tuesday, August 18, 2009
3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

From English High Tea to the centuries old tradition of Japanese Tea Ceremony, no other beverage has endured like tea. Join us as we pour over the history of tea during an afternoon tea tasting at the Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum (2220 N. Terrace Avenue, Milwaukee). Arrive at 3:00 p.m. for a guided tour of our current exhibition, Jon Michael Route: For the Love of Metal, a whimsical collection of tea pots and metalwork led by curator Martha Monroe. Then settle in on the terrace for a tasting of hot and cold tea led by Rishi Tea. As a perfect compliment, traditional tea-time pastries will be served. Finally, enjoy a docent-led tour of the Villa’s expansive Renaissance Garden.

Advance registration strongly recommended.

Opening reception: Wednesday, September 23, 2009 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Wisconsin sculptor Marilyn Annin uses found and fabricated materials to construct freestanding forms resembling clothing, uniforms or costumes, which the artist refers to as “landscapes.” In Annin’s work a garment becomes a revealing topography of an absent or imagined subject.
