MCTS Adds New Bus Route

By - Apr 1st, 2009 10:26 am

MCTS, empowered by a veto override by the Milwaukee County Board in November, has added (in reality restored) a bus route to their service offerings, offering service from the Downtown Transit Center through downtown and out to 60th Street via Vliet Avenue.

This area was previously served by Route 11 until March of 2008 when fares were raised to $2.00 and a number of lines were cut.  The route may actually see a continual rise in ridership as it connects The Brewery (the Pabst Brewery redevelopment) with downtown, where more and more buildings are being restored and occupied.

The new route has been labeled “Route 33 – Vliet Street“, and has been running since March 29th.

Service frequency won’t be amazing on the new route, with buses every 25 minutes on the weekdays and 30 minutes on the weekends.  Having some level of service is so much better than having no service at all though.

Cheers to the County Board for overriding the veto, and kudos to MCTS for making it work.

I’ve created a Google Map for you to interact with the new route.  MCTS has their standard static map as well.
