WMSE’s 22nd Rockabilly Chili Winners Announced

MILWAUKEE – April 10, 2024 – WMSE 91.7FM, Milwaukee’s only free-form, community-supported radio station, has announced the results of its 22nd annual Rockabilly Chili cookoff, a fundraiser for the station. More than 40 chilis crafted by Milwaukee-area restaurants were in the running to be named champions in meat, heat, veggie, and unique chili categories. More than 3,700 attendees enjoyed samples of chilis and voted to determine this year’s winners.

Winner: Beans & Barley
Runners up: Bakehouse 23; Twisted Plants

Most Unique
Winner: Ruta’s Fresh Indian Fare
Runners up: The Wolf on Broadway; Buttermint

Best Heat
Winner: Ruta’s Fresh Indian Fare
Runners up: Crafty Cow; Lakefront Brewery

Beat Meat
Winner: Red Maple MKE
Runners up: Buttermint; The Wolf on Broadway

Best Veggie
Winner: Twisted Plants
Runners up: Beans & Barley; Riverwest Co-Op

“With thousands of guests judging chili created by more than 40 contestants, our turnout was exceptional. We’re deeply grateful for the overwhelming support that ensures our station’s financial stability throughout the year,” said Station Manager Tom Crawford. “It’s heartwarming to see our community come together to celebrate WMSE, local eateries, and of course, delicious chili. Our competitors’ dedication and our voters’ seriousness make Rockabilly Chili special.
