WMSE Presents “Big Band Grandstand with Dewey Gill”

The Cab Calloway Orchestra to perform along with The Wisconsin Hybrid Theater

By - Oct 21st, 2014 10:24 am

On Sunday, Nov. 2, at 3:30 p.m. WMSE will take you back in time as the historic Turner Hall ballroom transforms to the era of the big band.  The legendary Cab Calloway Orchestra is the main event of the evening.  The 14-piece orchestra will transport music fans to the days when they were the house band of the historic 1930s Cotton Club.  The Wisconsin Hybrid Theater will intersperse vignettes throughout the event keeping the vibe of the times alive and well.  And if that isn’t enough, Dewey Gill – the man himself – will welcome guests with a special hand-selected DJ set to kick off the whole evening.

Besides an incredible night of entertainment, this will also serve as a fundraiser for WMSE.  There will be both a live and a silent auction.  Monies raised from this event will go to the digitization and streaming of WMSE’s jazz and big band library.  This will allow music fans everywhere the ability to hear jazz 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“This will indeed be a most visually and sonically stunning event of the year.  And it is to fund an incredible undertaking of digitizing and streaming our jazz library.  We are the only stationthat actually plays jazz in the Milwaukee market – be it Tuesday morning’s “Free Jazz Barbeque” with Dr. Sushi or “Sunday’s Big Band Show” with Dewey Gill. We’ve got you covered and now we can make that happen 24 hours a day,” said station manager and the evening’s host, Tom Crawford.

This is an event not to be missed!  So grab your best guy or your best doll and come on out for a swinging big time. Tickets are on sale now- www.wmse.org.
