WMSE’s 11th Annual “Food Slam” fundraising event on the campus of the Milwaukee School of Engineering
The 11th Annual WMSE Food Slam features 26 area restaurants, businesses, food trucks and cafés dishing out specialty entrees for up to 500 listeners and supporters.
Milwaukee, WI, September 17, 2012 – WMSE is proud to again host the yearly Food Slam fundraiser held on the campus of the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) on Friday, October 5th. The event will take place at The Grohmann Museum in downtown Milwaukee. Throughout the evening attendees will be able to browse the entire Grohmann historic art collection while experiencing all that the Food Slam has to offer.
The 11th Annual WMSE Food Slam features 26 area restaurants, businesses, food trucks and cafés dishing out specialty entrees for up to 500 listeners and supporters. A silent auction boasting an abundance of locally-donated packages will also benefit the non-profit, non-commercial music station that evening. “As we always say,” started WMSE Promotions Director, Ryan Schleicher, “the Food Slam is like a traditional tasting and auction but with the attitude and personality WMSE is known for.”
Also back this year in the lead up to the Food Slam is the fundraising partnership between WMSE and Comet and Honeypie Cafés. Comet and Honeypie have created not one, but two burgers – one meat and one vegetarian/vegan-friendly – from which they will donate $2.00 of all sales to WMSE for the entire month of September. WMSE Development Director, Justin Shoman, explained, “We pretty much just let Adam (Lucks, head chef at Comet and Honey Pie) run with it and he always delivers something you really can’t find anywhere else. That’s important to us because we believe WMSE is the place to hear music you won’t hear anywhere else on the Milwaukee radio dial.”
The 2012 Food Slam is expected to once again sell out like the previous three years, so advanced ticket purchases are highly encouraged. Tickets are now available via Brown Paper Tickets online at wmse.org. Advanced tickets for the Food Slam are $40.00 and $50.00 at the door. Tickets allow attendees to try food and beverages prepared by some of Milwaukee’s best local restaurants. Vendors for the Food Slam come in many varieties including upscale dining (SALA – formerly Sala da Pranzo – and The Rumpus Room), catering companies (Ball’N Biscuit and Charles Catering and Co.), cafés (Anodyne, Outpost), taverns (McBob’s), specialty shops (Bolzano Artisan Meats, Purple Door Ice Cream, Clock Shadow Creamery) and more. The Food Slam is open to all members of the community, and a cash bar will be serving local craft beer from the Milwaukee Brewing Company as well as wine and soft drinks. WMSE will also be accepting food donations for The Hunger Task Force. Attendees who bring two or more non-perishable food items will receive a complimentary drink.
Continuing details and features about participating Food Slam vendors as well as full descriptions of the “Modern Family” and “Atomic Milwaukee Family” burgers available at Comet and Honeypie can be found on the official Food Slam blog, currently curated by WMSE food writer, Steph Kilen.
