“Westown Gets Lit” with Holiday Spirit on Thursday, December 5

Business leaders to light West Wisconsin Avenue during new holiday event

MILWAUKEE – Shining a light on the neighborhood’s transformation, the first-time holiday celebration, Westown Gets Lit, takes place on Thursday, December 5 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the corner of West Wisconsin Avenue and Old World Third Street. Presented by various Westown business leaders, the event celebrates a year of unprecedented investments surpassing $206 million in several flagship properties along West Wisconsin Avenue including 310W, The Avenue, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Wisconsin Center District and HUB640.

Starting at 4:30 p.m., the plaza at 310W will be activated with carolers from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and free s’mores courtesy of GRAEF, cookies courtesy of DoubleTree by Hilton and hot cocoa courtesy of Dunkin’. Then, the neighborhood’s spirit will shine brightest at 5 p.m. when Mayor Tom Barret, Santa Claus and Westown leaders light the tree.

Following the short program, guests are invited to stick around to play holiday-themed games, enjoy tunes from True Skool, Inc.’s live DJ and get their first taste of Third Street Market Hall’s new vendor Milk Can Hamburgers & Frozen Custard. Also, as part of the Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival, Jingle Bus rides will depart throughout the evening from The Avenue, 161 West Wisconsin Avenue. Tickets to ride the Jingle Bus are $2 per person.

Stacie Callies, Executive Director of Westown Association, BID #5 will emcee the program, with invited speakers including Mayor Tom Barrett, Kim Guerrero of 310W and Brent Pitcher of GRAEF.
