WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, following a new report from CBS News, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) questioned Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll about why the U.S. Army denied servicemember’s request for additional medical supplies just weeks before they were the target of a deadly Iranian attack. The soldiers from the Army’s 103rd Sustainment Command, which sustained a deadly attack on March 1st that killed six soldiers and wounded 20, reported that the Army denied their request for medical support weeks before the fatal Iranian drone strike. Some of the servicemembers who survived the attack also said at least one soldier who was killed could have been saved if they had the medical resources.

In front of the Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, Baldwin pressed Secretary Driscoll on why this Army unit’s request was denied and got confirmation that he will investigate the report.

Senator Baldwin previously pressed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on the Trump Administration’s delay in providing care for servicemembers in the same unit who sustained brain injuries from Iranian attacks in Kuwait. Service members injured in the March 1st Iranian drone attack contacted the Senator’s office and reported they were not getting the care they needed for injuries they sustained. Baldwin then demanded action from the Administration to get these servicemembers care, and only after pressure, and nearly a month since the attack, did they get proper care for the injuries.

A recording of Senator Baldwin’s question is available here.
