MILWAUKEE– On Friday, September 8, 2023, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Spaights Plaza on UWM’s Campus, the newly-formed Prowl Radio is holding the university’s first ever Battle of the Bands. The event will feature four local music acts from the throughout the Milwaukee area, including: well-known indie-punk band ‘Scam Likely,’ (@scamlikelytheband), gritty indie band ‘Lake Drive,” (@lakedriveband), alternative-pop singer ‘9 a.m.,’ (@nineayem) and garage rock band ‘Alley Eyes,” (@alley_eyes). It is free to attend, and all are welcome to enjoy the display of Milwaukee music, not just students. The goal of the event is to highlight Milwaukee’s vibrant music scene.

“Battle of the Bands at UW-Milwaukee is something that I’ve wanted to plan for a long time,” says Grace Pagel, UWM student and Prowl Radio’s Music Outreach Director. “Milwaukee is such an epi-center of music and creativity, and by showcasing where some of that magic starts, a college campus, I hope many memories can be built for incoming students and members of the community through music.

Prowl Radio can be found on-air 24/7 online here: https://prowlradio.weebly.com/. For the YouTube channel featuring video content interview, visit @prowlradio7503 on YouTube and for additional content, @prowlradio on Instagram.

The Battle of the Bands comes in the wake of many recent accomplishments from Prowl Radio at UWM. Founded in February, the student organization has been gaining much traction.  A slew of impressive interviews featuring local acts such as ‘Diet Lite,’ ‘Scarlet Demore,’ and ‘Chapped Lips,’ and national acts such as Rhode Island based jazz musician Chase Ceglie and Nathan Stocker, the guitarist of the internationally famous band ‘Hippo Campus.’ Prowl Radio’s first on-air semester was filled with a wide range of eclectic radio shows, and this new semester promises to be an exciting new era for students to get involved with the music scene.

“Scam Likely is made up of alumni and current students,” says Charlee Grider, lead singer of Milwaukee indie-band, Scam Likely, one of the competing bands. “It’s really special to see UWM harvesting musical acts in the surrounding neighborhoods. Not only does it give exposure to the artists, but it could introduce people, young and old, to the beauty of the DIY scene.”

About Prowl Radio at UWM: “During the 2022 Spring semester the idea to start a music radio station on campus was born. By summer, we built a great team and got approved as an official student org. Fall 2022 marked our first semester on campus. And Spring 2023, February 1, marked our first on air hours. We are so excited to keep building this station.  And carry the mission of involving as many people as possible. Thank you for helping and listening to our dream. Music (and more) for students, by students.”
