UWM joins Amazon Career Choice Program
MILWAUKEE_The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has been selected to join Amazon’s Career Choice program.
The Career Choice collaboration offers hourly Amazon employees in Wisconsin support to pursue a university degree. Employees who have completed 90 days with the company can receive up to $5,250 per year in tuition for courses online or on campus.
The Amazon Career Choice program assists full or part-time employees in learning new skills to advance their careers at Amazon or elsewhere.
“We’re looking forward to UWM coming on board as an education partner for Career Choice, adding to the hundreds of best-in-class offerings available to our employees,” said Tammy Thieman, global program lead of Amazon’s Career Choice program. “We’re committed to empowering our employees by providing them access to the education and training they need to grow their careers, whether that’s with us or elsewhere. Today, over 80,000 Amazon employees around the world have already participated in Career Choice, and we’ve seen first-hand how it can transform their lives.”
UWM joins more than 200 education providers nationwide as part of the Career Choice partnership.
Students have begun enrolling at UWM through the Career Choice program. While employees in the program can choose to study on campus or online, the university anticipates most Amazon employees will choose from UWM’s strong array of online programs, according to Laura Pedrick, executive director of UWM Online.
Wisconsin is home to several large Amazon facilities, including a 2.6 million-square-foot, distribution center that opened in 2020 in Oak Creek. The company also has three locations in Milwaukee – a Prime Now hub, an Amazon Fresh site and a delivery station.
