Tragic Death of 1-Year-Old Shakes The Community

Statement of Alderman Khalif J. Rainey

By - Feb 2nd, 2023 12:15 pm

On Tuesday night family members, friends, and others in the community gathered near North 35th Street and West Hope Avenue to mourn the loss of 1-year-old Zarion Robinson, who had tragically passed just days prior as the result of a car accident. Zarion was inside his mother’s car when the vehicle was stolen and the driver crashed into another vehicle head-on.

I can’t imagine what Zarion’s family is going through, and I send them by deepest sympathies and well-wishes during this difficult time.

We continue to see far too many shootings, accidents as a result of reckless driving, and other completely avoidable instances where children end up paying the price for another person’s decision. As a community we must hold ourselves to a higher standard. These young people are our future and have their entire lives ahead of them. I think everyone would agree that our youngest residents deserve better. Zarion deserved better.

During the crash, police indicated that the passengers of a second vehicle fled the scene and unknown suspects are being sought. I would encourage anyone with relevant information to contact Milwaukee Police at 414-935-7360, or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 414-224-Tips or use the P3 Tips app.
