Tony Evers Tunes Out Wisconsin Business Owners

Evers Declares That Outcry From Businesses Isn’t Enough “Proof” of a Workforce Problem

By - Jun 2nd, 2021 02:12 pm

[Madison, WI] – While Wisconsin business owners continue to tell Tony Evers that the additional federal unemployment benefit is hurting their ability to find workers, Evers continues to tune them out. Yesterday, Tony Evers told WISN 12 that the outcry from small business owners from across the state does not constitute enough “proof” or “data” to recognize that his refusal to help get Wisconsin working again is hindering our state’s economic recovery.

While Evers claims that he lacks the “data” to help small businesses get back on their feet after he kept them shut down for months during the onset of the pandemic, small business owners across the state have been clear. 50 Chambers of Commerce from across Wisconsin have asked Evers to join the 25 states that have opted out of the federal unemployment benefit, and businesses across the state are trying to attract workers with higher pay and hiring bonuses to no avail. How much more “proof” does Tony Evers need to stop playing games with Wisconsin’s economic recovery?

“Wisconsin businesses have said for weeks that the federal unemployment benefit is hindering their ability to find workers, but Tony Evers says he doesn’t have enough ‘data’ to help,” said Republican Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Anna Kelly“After Main Street suffered the most at the hands of his extended lockdowns, Evers’ refusal to listen to the concerns of small business owners and confront the labor shortage is yet another slap in the face.
