Time for quick end to federal shutdown
Statement of Alderman Joe Davis, Sr. October 2, 2013
As a member of the National League of Cities’ Board of Directors, I have been briefed extensively on the federal government shutdown, and I have been included on White House conference calls relating to how the shutdown will impact cities and local governments.
I must say that I am frustrated by the failure in Washington, D.C. to fund the federal government. Now, for the first time in 17 years, the federal government is shut down except for essential workers. The failure on the part of Congress to pass a budget has real economic consequences for families, local communities and businesses. Congress must take responsibility and pass a clean continuing resolution as soon as possible, so that local communities and local governments are not penalized by this epic failure.
If members fail to act, then I will be inviting them to come to a coffee shop in my district to hear the very real anger of my constituents.
