The Vanguard is set to open summer of 2014 in Bay View
THE VANGUARD. 2659 S Kinnickinnic Avenue
Milwaukee, Wis. – April 2, 2014 The Vanguard, a locally‐owned neighborhood restaurant/bar, will open on Kinnickinnic Avenue, a few doors south of Honeypie, this summer. Offering an elevated approach to Milwaukee’s beer and brat tradition, the Vanguard will specialize in house‐made sausages, while the casual space pays homage to Milwaukee’s corner bar environment.
Owners and Milwaukee residents, Jim McCann and Chris Schulist, have been working on the Vanguard idea for quite some time. “We wanted to open a place with unique gourmet options in a friendly and fun bar atmosphere. We decided that sausages and brats were perfect for the concept because it is such a versatile food,” said McCann.
The Vanguard’s chef‐created menu will focus on innovative sausages and brats ranging from familiar favorites, to vegetarian, to the adventurous. The menu is paired with an extensive drink program (Punches, Draft Cocktails, Classic Cocktails, Micro and Craft Brews, Imports, Standards, as well as an extensive Bourbon and Whiskey list) that will appeal to everyone from the no‐nonsense beer drinker to the discerning connoisseur.
McCann and Schulist hired Shay Linkus (formerly of Odd Duck) to head their kitchen.
“We are really excited about our menu. Shay has been really creative with the concept and has even added a full Poutine menu and lots of other interesting options,” said Schulist.
The Vanguard will be open from 11am‐ 2am for lunch, take‐out, dinner, and late‐night.
