Milwaukee, Wis., Oct. 20, 2015The Pfister® Hotel’s internationally recognized Artist-in-Residence program offers a long-standing passion for the arts combined with historic tradition. Home to a collection of more Victorian art than any other hotel in the world, the historic hotel, which is owned and managed by Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, is searching for its next resident artist.

Entering its eighth year, The Pfister’s Artist-in-Residence program features a working art studio and gallery that is open to hotel guests and the public. The program encourages visitors to interact with the artist, while watching the evolution of each piece of work firsthand.

“Over the years, we’ve seen incredible talent and stark diversity in styles among our resident artists,” said Tim Smith, general manager of The Pfister Hotel. “We look forward to meeting the next great artist and watching his or her work come to life in front of our guests.”

Each year, The Pfister’s resident artist is chosen to fill the role from a pool of highly qualified candidates based on their vision for the gallery space and their body of work during their residency, artistic process, personality and a public vote. The next artist, succeeding painter Todd Mrozinski, will move into the studio space April 1, 2016, and will continue working at the hotel for a one-year period.

“Serving as The Pfister’s resident artist has taught me the value of having one-on-one connections with guests and associates,” said Mrozinski. “Not only have I enjoyed the opportunity to have my work seen, discussed and purchased by collectors and guests, but the opportunity to help other artists by featuring their work in my studio has been a wonderful way to connect with and encourage others. It’s amazing to be able to do my work on a daily basis and be supported.

“The Artist-in-Residence program offers a wonderful opportunity to develop a body of work in the context of an organization that promotes and supports creativity. Working in the historic hotel and being surrounded by a museum-quality collection has been inspiring and beneficial for my artistic development,” added Mrozinski.

The deadline to apply for the program is Dec. 1, 2015. Interested artists can download the application form at www.thepfisterhotel.com/artist-in-residence. Application packages should be delivered to The Pfister Hotel’s front desk, to the attention of Donna Basterash.

About The Pfister Hotel

The Pfister Hotel has been the premier hotel in downtown Milwaukee for over 120 years.  Originally built in 1893 by businessman Guido Pfister, it was the most lavish hotel of its time. The hotel’s storied elegance had faded following World War II, until 1962, when Ben Marcus, founder of The Marcus Corporation, purchased this grand hotel out of bankruptcy. The Marcus family renovated and restored the hotel to its original glory, adding convention facilities, a parking garage and 23-story guest tower. The Pfister Hotel remains home to the largest collection of Victorian art of any hotel in the world, and recently unveiled an interactive augmented reality tour of pieces in this impressive collection.

Today the Pfister Hotel continues its tradition of gracious service and impeccable style, and has been recognized for 39 consecutive years by AAA as a Four-Diamond property. The hotel is also an ongoing member of two prestigious organizations, the Historic Hotels of America and Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. The Pfister Hotel is located at 424 E. Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Milwaukee. More information and updates on the hotel can be found on Facebook at www.facebook.com/thePfisterHotel and on Twitter (@PfisterHotel).
