Special Exhibits

Big League Fun
May 25-Sept. 8
The Museum’s special Big League Fun exhibit returns to the Special Exhibits Gallery on May 25 and will immerse visitors in the exciting world of baseball. The 2,000 square-foot, hands-on exhibit will feature fun activities, simulated game experiences, and trivia challenges that promote important educational concepts for children and engage fans of all ages. Exhibit activities emphasize the science and math behind the sport, reflect national academic standards for school-age children and support developmental milestones set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Neighborhood Night
May 16, June 20, July 18 and Aug. 15: 5-8 p.m.
Enjoy free admission from 5-8 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month, plus special workshops offered in the Museum’s Be A Maker space. Neighborhood Night is presented by the Northwestern Mutual Foundation with additional support provided by the Joy Global Foundation, the Milwaukee Public Schools Community Partnership Grant and US Bank, and media sponsor FOX6. • Neighborhood Night: Early Childhood Resource Fair
  May 16
  The Museum is celebrating early childhood education with a resource fair during it’s free Neighborhood Night on May 16 from 5-8 p.m. Families can meet with the Milwaukee Public Schools Head Start Program, COA Youth & Family Centers, 4C-For Children, Next Door Foundation, Sixteenth Street Health Center & WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Clinic, The Parenting Network and other community partners.

Sendik’s Day
July 27, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Starting July 6, shoppers can visit a Sendik’s Food Market and purchase select products, then show their receipt at the Museum on July 27 to receive one FREE admission per product. On Sendik’s Day, visitors to the Museum can explore fun, hands-on exhibits like the pretend Sendik’s Food Market in Home Town, Pocket Park, Science CITY and Word Headquarters and participate in project-based learning activities in the Be A Maker space.

WaterStone Bank Day
August 24, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
WaterStone Bank Day is a special day at the Museum highlighting financial literacy. Children can explore the Museum’s pretend WaterStone Bank exhibit and families will receive a take-home kit with pretend money and activities to do at the Museum and at home that promote good money management.

Weekly Programs
Birth through age 5 are critical years in a child’s development. In addition to special programs throughout the year, the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum’s weekly programs promote early learning while families have fun together. Space is limited. Visit bbcmkids.org for additional information.

Tot Time: Recommended for children ages 1-3
Every Thursday, 10:30-11 a.m.
Tot Time features songs, stories, games and other activities for the Museum’s youngest visitors.

Pint-Size Science: Recommended for children ages 2-5
May 28, June 5 & 12, July 17 & 24, and Aug. 14 & 28: 10:30-11 a.m.
From the kitchen to the playground – and even in the car – science is everywhere. This facilitated program features hands-on science discoveries through stories, songs and experiments.

Environmental Explores: Recommended for children age 3 and older
May 14 & 21, June 4 & 11, July 2 & 16, and Aug. 6 & 20: 10:30-11 a.m.
Children participate in hands-on activities to explore nature and learn how to care for the Earth. This program is held in the Museum’s Be A Maker (BAM) space and in the BAM Urban Garden, weather-permitting.

RIGAMAJIG^©: Recommended for children age 3 and older
May 10 & 24, June 7 & 14, July 5 & 19, Aug. 16 & 30: 10:30-11 a.m.
RIGAMAJIG is a large-scale building kit that helps children develop their problem-solving skills, cognitive thinking and imagination through hands-on, open-ended play.

Maker Programs
The Museum’s Be A Maker (BAM) space is a communal workshop that invites families and groups to explore science, technology, engineering, arts/design and math by working on a broad range of do-it-yourself projects that help children build new skills, collaborate and share their accomplishments. Be A Maker: Open Making
Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-noon & 2-4 p.m., and Saturday 2-4 p.m.
The Museum’s Be A Maker space offers tools, equipment and materials that make it fun to tinker and create. Each month, BAM changes its focus to provide family-friendly projects and activities that promote learning by doing.

Be A Maker: Art Studio
May 18, June 15, July 20 and Aug. 17: 2-4 p.m.
The Art Studio inspires young artists with opportunities to create unique projects with dry, wet and textured materials. Recommended for children ages 4 and older.

Scout Programs
The Betty Brinn Children’s Museum offers guided programs that help Girl Scouts meet STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art/design and math) badge requirements. Private troop workshops and events are also available for both Boy Scout and Girl Scout groups. Visit bbcmkids.org/girl-scouts/ for group reservation and workshop registration information.

Daisy Badge Workshop – What Robots Do, How Robots Move, and Design a Robot
May 11, 12:30-2 p.m.
Daisy Scouts will earn all 3 of their Robotics badges by learning how we use technology and will have the opportunity to solve problems by building and designing their own robots. Participants will receive a Betty Brinn Children’s Museum patch and certificate. Museum admission is not included in workshop fee. Price: $15 per Scout
