Technical Error Causes Project Clean and Green Confusion

By - May 5th, 2026 06:32 pm

Alderman Lamont Westmoreland wants residents to be aware that a technical issue has caused confusion about Project Clean and Green pickup dates for zones 3 and 4 (both of which include the 5th Aldermanic District), with zone 3 beginning this week.

“Earlier today, I learned of an issue on the city’s website where residents would enter their address to look up their Project Clean and Green pickup, and the dates for zone 3 and zone 4 were transposed, resulting in confusion as pickups began in those areas,” said Alderman Westmoreland. “While the error is now fixed to reflect proper dates, I am asking residents of the 5th District who thought their pickup date was this week to leave their pickup items out for the time being to avoid any further hassle or confusion. I also want to thank those who contacted my office and notified me about the confusion and issues they encountered. Their diligence let me know something was wrong, and helped unearth the underlying issue.”

Alderman Westmoreland notes that the error was caught by the Department of Public Works on April 27 and was corrected by April 28, but was not communicated to the impacted areas or Council Members. If 5th District residents have any issues with Clean and Green items being picked up this week, they should contact the Alderman’s office. Those in zones 3 and 4 who experience issues outside of the 5th District should contact their Alderperson.

Project Clean and Green is a city-wide program designed to foster neighborhood pride and ownership through coordinated clean-up. Collection crews will target one zone each week from April 20 – June 1 and collect up to six (6) cubic yards per property of unwanted furniture, mattresses, or household items, and garden/yard debris in paper yard waste bags.
