Supervisor Burgelis Responds to State Senate Vote on Brewers Stadium Funding

By - Nov 14th, 2023 12:59 pm

MILWAUKEE – Today, the Wisconsin state Senate voted on a stadium funding deal designed to keep the Milwaukee Brewers in Wisconsin. Supervisor Peter Burgelis expressed his optimism and relief regarding the progress made toward keeping the Brewers in Milwaukee:

“Wisconsin residents can breathe a collective sigh of relief that the State Senate passed its version of the Brewers stadium funding bill today. This provides a framework for the legislature to hammer out a compromise for a plan to keep the Brewers in Milwaukee. It also establishes a roadmap for Stadium district development that could help self-fund stadium needs past 2050. Milwaukee has a lot to celebrate today!”

In 2022, Supervisor Burgelis authored a resolution calling upon the Stadium Board to start a conversation about developing the 13,000 untaxed parking spaces surrounding American Family Field. Supervisor Burgelis continues to emphasize the potential of these spaces generating additional revenue streams for the County, contributing to the long-term sustainability of the stadium and its surrounding district.

The State Senate votes on the legislation related to stadium funding were both 19-14, with 11 Republicans and 8 Democrats voting in favor.
