Supervisor Burgelis Commends Board Decision to Allocate Surplus Revenues to Park Maintenance and Capital Projects
MILWAUKEE – Today, Thursday, December 21, 2023, the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors approved an amended resolution which would allocate the 2023 Parks Department surplus to fund major maintenance and capital projects within Milwaukee County parks. Supervisor Burgelis made the following statement:
“Our residents have spoken—they want more pools open this summer, and our neighborhoods depend on it. I’m proud that the County Board endorsed my amendment and provided the Parks Department with the necessary resources to open as many aquatic facilities as possible. Prioritizing aquatics is a common-sense choice for the County, and I am pleased that the Board supports championing our Parks for the benefit of our community,” said Supervisor Burgelis. “By proactively managing expenses and capitalizing on higher-than-expected revenues, this year’s Parks Department surplus allows us to make impactful investments in our parks immediately. This bold move will equip the Department with the necessary resources to open more pools and splashpads, meeting the needs of our residents.”
The resolution was initiated by the Executive Director of Milwaukee County Parks Guy Smith and amended in committee through policy authored by Supervisor Peter Burgelis. The amendment adds $300,000 which shall be earmarked for beach, deep well pool, wading pool, and splashpad infrastructure to help ensure as many aquatic facilities as possible are in working order and ready for the 2024 season.
The resolution now heads to the desk of County Executive David Crowley for approval.
