Statement From the Clean Economy Coalition of Wisconsin on Senate Bill 3
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Clean Economy Coalition of Wisconsin released the following statement on Senate Bill 3:
The Clean Economy Coalition of Wisconsin has deep concerns about Senate Bill 3, as it would likely increase costs for families and small businesses by creating additional barriers to developing large-scale clean energy projects in our state that would deliver cheaper electricity. The bill would also make it harder for local communities to reap the economic benefits of hosting clean energy infrastructure.
Wisconsin’s energy future depends on scaling up affordable clean energy options quickly and responsibly, but SB 3 risks delaying or blocking these projects before the Public Service Commission can act. At a time when Wisconsinites across the state are concerned about rising utility bills, lawmakers should be finding ways to expand affordable, reliable, clean energy. Legislation like Senate Bill 3 would inject uncertainty into the approval process and send the wrong signal to companies looking to build new projects in Wisconsin.Instead of creating unnecessary roadblocks to bring renewable energy online – and placing more barriers on renewables than fossil fuel projects – Wisconsin must focus on solutions that expand affordable clean energy options, while keeping energy reliable for Wisconsin families and small businesses.
