Social Work Licensure Compact Co-Authored by Rep. Robyn Vining Signed Into Law
MADISON– Governor Tony Evers signed into law a bill that facilitates the practice of social work across state lines: 2025 Assembly Bill 80 (now 2025 Wisconsin Act 232). The new law ratifies and enters Wisconsin into the Social Work Licensure Compact, provides the ability for a licensed social worker to practice social work in all other compact states, and creates a coordinated data system containing licensure and disciplinary action information on social workers. Rep. Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) co-authored the bill and released the following statement:
“Mental healthcare is healthcare and every Wisconsinite should have access to the mental healthcare they need. At long last the Wisconsin legislature has approved the Social Work Licensure Compact, empowering mental health professionals to more broadly care for Wisconsinites, and expanding access to mental healthcare across Wisconsin. Signing this bill into law is one of the most significant steps Wisconsin has taken to expand access to mental healthcare, and I am relieved this legislature has finally taken this move forward, together.”
