Shooting Investigation
MILWAUKEE, WI— Today, Friday, October 4, 2024, at approximately 8:33 a.m., Milwaukee Police Department officers were dispatched to a shooting on the 4100 block of N. 68th Street.
Upon arrival, officers observed three victims fleeing the residence by jumping off the second-story porch. One of these victims had multiple gunshot wounds and was armed with a firearm. Officers moved the victims to safety. At this time, a suspect exited the residence onto the second-story porch and was observed by officers armed with a firearm. Officers gave commands to the suspect to drop the gun and the suspect did not comply. An officer discharged his firearm at the suspect. The suspect then retreated into the residence.
A tactical setup was established and negotiators attempted a peaceful resolution. After no response from the suspect, the Tactical Enforcement Unit entered the residence and located the 33-year-old male suspect, deceased from a gunshot wound. At this time, the cause of the suspect’s injury is unknown. The suspect’s firearm was recovered next to him.
The shooting victim that fled the residence, a 33-year-old, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. No one else was struck from gunfire.
The officer that discharged his duty weapon during this incident is a 28-year-old male with over 3 years of service. While the origins of the suspect’s injury is unknown at this time, the officer will be placed on administrative duty as is routine in officer involved shooting investigations.
The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team will be investigating this incident. The Brookfield Police Department is the leading agency.
Video will be released related to this incident in accordance with Standard Operating Procedure 575, if it is determined our officer’s gunfire caused the suspect’s death.
