Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats call for hearing about correctional facility safety
"We were alarmed to learn of very serious allegations of abuse at Lincoln Hills through the media," the letter reads.
(MADISON) – Today, the two Democrats on the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee called for a public hearing into the safety at Wisconsin’s correctional facilities.
Senator Fred Risser (D-Madison) and Senator Lena C. Taylor (D-Milwaukee) issued the call today during the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety’s hearing in response to horrifying allegations of abuse at Lincoln Hills Correctional Facility.
“We were alarmed to learn of very serious allegations of abuse at Lincoln Hills through the media,” the letter reads.
The letter acknowledges Department of Corrections Secretary Ed Wall‘s cooperation with investigators into the Lincoln Hills matter and calls for extending that cooperation to the Legislature.
“Not only is it the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety’s legislative responsibility to investigate this matter, but it is our moral responsibility as policymakers,” the letter concludes.
