Resolution creating interagency housing plan approved by committee

By - Jan 12th, 2021 01:33 pm

During today’s meeting of the Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee (Tuesday, January 12), the committee recommended approval of file # 201188 – a resolution directing the Commissioner of City Development to collaborate with the Community Development Grants Administration, Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee, the City-County Task Force on Climate and Economic Equity, and other local stakeholders to develop a comprehensive, interagency housing plan. The file was sponsored by Common Council President Cavalier Johnson and serves as a follow-up to a footnote placed in the 2021 City budget.

“Having affordable, accessible and equitable housing across all parts of the city is vital to support residents, create wealth and have strong neighborhoods,” said President Johnson. “It is crucial that the City makes sure our housing efforts are aligned across all areas and departments to improve efficiency and strategic thinking. I look forward to seeing the proposed plan later this year.”

The resolution states that the Commissioner of City Development shall present the interagency housing plan to the Common Council within 6 months of adoption. Adoption of the file will be considered at the next meeting of the full Common Council at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19. The meeting will be televised live on the City Channel (channel 25 on Spectrum Cable and channel 99 on AT&T U-Verse in the City of Milwaukee) and via streaming video on the city website at city.milwaukee.gov/Channel25.
