Report Shows 267,000 Veterans Will Lose Their Coverage if Republicans Take Away Health Care Tax Breaks
Baldwin leads the legislation to keep Affordable Care Act tax breaks, stop premium hike on 24 million Americans
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) released the following statement after a new report from the Urban Institute was released that shows as many as 267,000 U.S. military veterans will lose their health coverage next year if Republicans let the Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits expire at the end of the year.
“This report makes clear that if Republicans continue down this path and jack up health care costs on Wisconsin families, they are also terminating care for more than 250,000 Veterans who have sacrificed for our country,” said Senator Baldwin. “This is wrong and no way to take care of those who served us. I have been fighting hard to reopen the government and keep health care costs down because Wisconsinites and these Veterans deserve it. I am at the table, ready to work with anyone to get this done and protect millions of Americans from skyrocketing health care costs.”Today, Senator Baldwin voted for a sixth time to keep the government open, reverse Republicans’ cuts to Medicaid, and extend the Affordable Care Act enhanced premium tax credits. Every single Senate Republican voted against the measure. Senator Baldwin and Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) lead legislation to make these tax breaks permanent. Last month, Senator Baldwin made four stops in Weston, Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Mount Horeb to highlight the need to extend these tax breaks.
