MADISON – The Joint Legislative Council met today to decide the future of seven bills that passed unanimously out of the Special Committee on State-Tribal Relations last year. In response to this hearing, Rep. Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa), a member of the Special Committee on State-Tribal Relations, issued the following statement:

“I applaud the Joint Legislative Council for continuing the bipartisan work of this committee by voting to sponsor this important legislation. I was proud to serve on the Special Committee on State-Tribal Relations, and was incredibly honored to be part of this important, bipartisan legislative process that produced bills to honor Indigenous People’s Day, to allow students to wear traditional tribal regalia at graduation ceremonies and school-sponsored events, and to increase tribal representation on the Higher Education Aids Board, among others. The members of our tribal nations deserve to see these bipartisan bills move through the Republican-controlled legislature and onto Governor Evers’ desk to be signed into law. Forward together!

Rep. Vining represents the 14th Assembly District, which includes parts of Wauwatosa and West Allis. For more information, visit Rep. Vining’s website here.
