MADISON–At a press conference this morning, Rep. Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) joined Gov. Tony Evers, Lt. Gov. Rodriguez, Democratic legislators, and advocates to call for an advisory referendum to repeal Wisconsin’s archaic 1849 criminal abortion ban. Rep. Robyn Vining released the following statement:

“We must live and legislate with empathy and compassion. Abortion is a decision to be made by a patient and their doctor, a decision that should not be made, or interfered with, by the government. I remain dedicated to protecting the well-being and the rights of my constituents.

“I applaud Governor Evers’ commitment to restoring the rights of Wisconsinites, and I join him in calling for a statewide referendum to be placed on the ballot.

“Wisconsinites have been loud and clear on our support of Roe V. Wade, and yet Legislative Republicans continue to subvert the will of the people by refusing to repeal this outdated law. If Republicans truly cared about what the people of Wisconsin want, they should have no issue giving the voters a voice in the form of an advisory referendum.”

Rep. Vining represents the 14th Assembly District, which includes parts of Wauwatosa and West Allis. For more information, visit Rep. Vining’s website here
