Rep. Mark Spreitzer statement on denial of Great Lakes Basin Rail Line

"Today is a victory for the people of southern Wisconsin."

By - Aug 31st, 2017 04:12 pm

MADISON- Today, the Surface Transportation Board rejected a Great Lakes Basin Transportation application to build a 261 mile rail line through Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. In response Rep. Mark Spreitzer (D–Beloit) made the following statement:

“Today is a victory for the people of southern Wisconsin. The coordinated and diligent organizing by residents and groups opposed to the project are responsible for this success. I applaud the Surface Transportation Board’s decision to listen to those who would have been adversely impacted and deny the application. We must remain vigilant regarding similar projects in the future, but today, we celebrate.”
