Rep. Donovan Appointed Chairman of Committee on Urban Revitalization

Madison – Representative Bob Donovan (R-Greenfield) gave the following statement after being appointed as Chairman of the newly formed Committee on Urban Revitalization and reappointed as Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Local Government. Rep. Donovan said:

“For too long, our urban areas have been left to slowly deteriorate while the ideals that once made them great have become merely a memory. This decline is a choice, and for too long it has been accepted as the status quo. I hope this opportunity results in a partnership between the state and our local partners that is committed to the renewal of our urban areas.”

Wisconsin taxpayers expect government to provide core services at an adequate level. Unfortunately, this goal has not always been met and to the detriment of taxpayers. The Committee on Urban Revitalization will examine the hurdles that our urban areas face—barriers that often stunt or even eliminate their growth.

“Every city across Wisconsin deals with varying issues—both big and small. However, if the core tenets of public safety and education are not adequately provided, there is little room for improvement in other areas,” said Rep. Donovan. “If addressed properly, these areas have the ability to create the greatest and most immediate impact on the lives of citizens.”
